Corringway, W5 (2017)

The remodelling of an existing block of flats with a view to possible duplication elsewhere on the site. This project was a potential development by the various owners of the flats but not followed through due to conflicting aspirations of various parties.

It explores potential for refreshing the existing building and emphasising the structure of the existing.  There are two main alterations :

[i] addition of insulated rendering to the exterior walls for energy conservation,  connecting the simple consistency of window heads and cills,

[ii] the addition of an additional penthouse floor at the existing roof level which is staggered back in stages.  This is partly to maintain the existing mass as seen from the street, retaining the scale of the original but this also forms a front terrace to each top flat.

The green touch is something of a homage to the wonderful 1930's Hoover Building on the Westway nearby.
